Product Description This is the story of Dreams for Kids. It is a story of compassion, acceptance, and love—the innate qualities of a dolphin.Dreams for Kids began at the request of a very special womanand is sustained by mentors who have empowered and positivelyinfluenced more than 20,000 children. These individuals have changed, perhaps even saved, entire communities. They serve as an enduringexample that one person truly can make a difference in our worldand can produce an astounding living legacy.
The moving, real-life stories of children who have been given an opportunity to achieve what they thought impossible, takes us on ajourney of courage and determination. With the compassion andacceptance of others, these children found the courage to refuse toallow the circumstances of their lives to determine the quality of their days. Children came from the sidelines of life to sail, golf, water-ski,and play sports that previously existed only in their dreams, and were met with the grace of idols and everyday people, who unselfishly gave their time and their hearts.
We have all felt the pain of isolation. We have all experienced loss. In reading these soul-stirring stories of individuals who have successfully overcome adversity, we are filled with hope and the inspiration to put things in perspective and conquer our own challenges.
By shining light on a lost society of children confined and isolated by poverty and disability, this book also acknowledges anamazing group of selfless individuals who have led unassuming livesand do not seek recognition, but deserve it. They are living testament that true satisfaction comes not from what we have, but rather, fromwhat we give.
Perhaps most importantly, this book proves that we all desire and need love—and the best way to receive love is to graciously, generously give it. The mission and message of the book isthat people desperately need the dolphin spirit that lies within us all.
Welcome to the story of Dreams for Kids—a story of how ordinary people are making an extraordinary difference and fulfilling their dreams and the dreams of others.

Be a Dolphin & Change a Life July 23, 2008 Kiss of a Dolphin By Tom Tuohy Founder of Dreams for Kids Lumen-us Publications 2006 ISBN 978-0-9787788-8-0
When I first picked up Tom Tuohy's book "Kiss of a Dolphin" I did not realize that I would be swept into a magical world where miracles happen and dreams come true. No, this is not a fairy tale. Every disabled or poverty stricken child or adult who has been drawn into that world would soon learn the same thing - anything is possible. Through Tom's organization "Dreams for Kids" literally thousands of these people have found dignity and hope for a better, brighter future. This book includes stories of the unimaginable courage of the various disadvantaged people, whose only desire is to be like everyone else. It also tells of the many outstanding folks who came to their aid to give them the love and encouragement to overcome their limitations. In a cycle of giving and gratitude, those same people in turn wish only to give back what has been so freely given to them. If they can do it is there any excuse for the rest of us? Kiss of a Dolphin is superbly written and will inspire you to be a better person - a dolphin that senses need and jumps into unchartered waters without even being asked and without concern for the consequences - just for the chance to change someone else's life for the better. This book will make you reassess where true joy in life really stems from - the joy of giving your heart, mind and soul to help someone less fortunate. It will challenge you to seek out opportunities in your own life and neighborhood to extend your hands and heart to someone in need. I put this review away and thought I was finished. Not so. There's something else that needs to be said. After reading this book, I felt a profound mixture of loss, sadness and gratitude. The loss from all the years when I was able bodied and could have done more. Sadness for all of those whose lives I could have touched but didn't; gratitude for my wonderful family members who go out of their way to ensure that I, now disabled myself, never need for anything. I realize that although I helped people here and there throughout my life, there is much more I could have done. Now I regret passing by countless opportunities that could have drastically changed another person's life. Don't let this happen to you. Become a dolphin - with that inner sonar to recognize when and where you are needed. Your reward will be in knowing that you made a difference.
When you purchase a copy of this wonderful book, know that all profits from book sales go back into the Dreams for Kids foundation.
Kiss of a Dolphin -- Inspirational Beyond Words September 21, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Thanks to Tom Tuohy's extraordinary, life-long commitment to living a joyful life of service, a beautiful story -- one still in the making -- unfolds in KISS OF A DOLPHIN. As you jump into this journey of seeing the potential in every human being on the planet, you will see your own opportunities to give and receive love. The humor and poignancy and, unfortunately, sorrow, woven through this book make it difficult to put down. Never, in all of my years, have I been so moved by a book. Read this story and your heart will be looking for ways that you too can be a source of joy and inspiration.

There should be more people like this helping others. Too many times kids do not participate in Community service. Also, there should be more organizations like this in every state.

Dreams for Kids: An Advocate for Hope September 3, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I often found myself reading through tears as I turned the pages of "Kiss of a Dolphin" as Tom Tuohy recounts the heartwarming stories of J. J. O'Conner, Jesse White, Father Walter Brennan, and Clara Kirk.
"Kiss of a Dolphin" is the story of Dreams for Kids. It is the story of how ordinary people are making an extraordinary difference in fulfilling the dreams of others. The story moves from the Cabrini-Green area of Chicago, to Chicago's Westside, and to West Englewood, mushrooming into statewide and then national recognition.
Partners in the adventures recounted here include, Jesse White and his internationally acclaimed tumbling team, Father Wally Brennan's ministry in the streets, and Clara Kirk's shelter of hope. Their organizations and individual team members have inspired hope to those entrapped by the cycle of poverty and race restrictions and limitations.
Jim Smith and Dick Marak provided the inspiration and encouragement for J.J. O'Conner to rise above the despair of being a quadriplegic. A lesson learned while swimming with the dolphins at an aquatic facility in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, taught J.J. an important lesson in trust, acceptance, and communication. The kiss of the dolphin changed J.J.'s approach to life and self acceptance. His desire to return something to the community impacted the future mission of Dreams for Kids and became the title of this book.
Tom Tuohy communicates in a convincing, gripping way that draws you into each story producing a strong desire to respond to the need, to become involved and to participate in fulfilling the vision of Dreams for Kids.
"Kiss of a Dolphin" should be read by every individual involved in community outreach, agency program directors, and individuals who have been touched by the underprivileged, poverty stricken, or those physically disabled.
Tom Tuohy provides a message of hope, inspiration, and the challenge to make your dreams a reality.
