- Adopt a Dolphin
: WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society is the world's most
active charity (Registered No. 1014705) dedicated to the conservation
and welfare of all whales, dolphins and porpoises (also known as
cetaceans). Established in 1987, WDCS is staffed by a dedicated team of
people determined to do their best for the animals, and proud of the
fact that WDCS's operating costs are kept to a minimum. The money
raised is spent on urgent conservation, research and education projects
that really do make a difference to the daily lives and long-term
security of thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the
world.
- Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU)
: Formed in 1997, the Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU) is a
small, non-profit research organisation based in NE Scotland. Located
in the beautiful heritage fishing village of Gardenstown (right), near
Banff, on the southern coastline of the outer Moray Firth, the group is
dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins and
porpoises in Scottish waters through scientific investigation,
environmental education, and the provision of professional, veterinary
assistance to sick, stranded and injured individuals.
- Conservation Quest: Dolphin Internships
: Conservation Quest provides links and information to help you find a
career working with animals of all kinds. This link send you directly
to their "Dolphin Internship" section for work with dolphins and other
marine mamals.
- International Marine Mammal Project
: We work to make oceans safe for marine mammals worldwide. We strive
to eliminate dolphin mortality caused by the international tuna fishing
industry, to end the use of driftnets, and to stop tuna purse-seine
fishers from encircling dolphins in their nets. In addition, we aim to
stop the resumption of commercial whaling worldwide, to promote
sustainable fishing, and to protect the habitat of whales, dolphins,
and other marine species.
- The Ocean Conservancy - Bottlenose Dolphin
: Thanks to their graceful beauty, intelligence, acrobatics and playful
nature, bottlenose dolphins have fascinated people since ancient times.
Streamlined and smooth, their bodies reach varying lengths from 6 to 12
feet, dependent upon geographic location. Females can live for more
than 50 years, while males typically live for about 40 years.
