***************** Why Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga & Who is Jennifer Wolfe? *****************
Whether you're a yoga veteran in search of an active yoga routine, or you're new to yoga, Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga gives you all the tools to make your pregnancy journey the best it can be. Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga is your support system leading to a more comfortable pregnancy, quicker and less painful labor, and a speedier postpartum recovery.
Jennifer Wolfe developed Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga during her own pregnancy when she realized that all styles of prenatal yoga offered, at the time, could not adequately prepare her physically and mentally for labor. She wanted a yoga practice that specifically served the needs of the pregnant woman: one that actively prepares women for the marathon event of childbirth, while helping women discover their power and inner strength needed during this transformative period in their lives.
Jennifer Wolfe found these empowering and strengthening qualities in the soft flow of Vinyasa Yoga. In her DVDs, she adapts Vinyasa Yoga for the unique needs of pregnant women, providing a system that works with your body without sacrificing the intensity necessary to prepare for childbirth. By learning to link your breath and movements in a constant flow, you'll increase your ability to work with your body during labor and childbirth, reducing the need for medications or other interventions; including a decrease in the need for C-sections.

Great workout -yoga style January 31, 2010 E. Mouynes (NYC) While I am not really a yoga practitioner, I have always maintained myself in good shape. From months 1-5 I kept my jogging routine, then I switched to swimming months 6-8. Now, as I come closer to the due date and I kept hearing about the wonderful benefits of Yoga I tried first the Shiva Rea video, which I ended up dumping half-way through: I founded it boring and not challenging enough.
Then, I got this video and I find myself, one week away from actual due date, still practicing the vinyasa yoga.
I think it is a very good routine, and you don't really need to have prior yoga experience, as long as you are in good physical shape. I only got the first series, and I do regret not knowing about the short forms, as the one thing I would prefer is having the ability to choose shorter workouts than the 75 minute routine which is certainly too long particularly if you are working and you do not have that much time available.
The production/music is rather simple and monotonous, but I still prefer this video to other options with better settings but not enough of a challenge or good preparation of your body for the birth of the baby.
Regards.
Perfect! December 8, 2009 A. Symons (Falls Church, VA) I had bought this other pre- & post-natal yoga DVD prior to this one and was so disappointed because it really wasn't a workout. I wanted something a bit more challenging. This is Vinyasa yoga, meaning "you will sweat" type yoga. It's the faster type of yoga where you breath in for one pose and then out for the next pose. I love that she had 2 other ladies each at different stages of pregnancy (2nd & 3rd trimesters) demonstrating adjustment to the poses that are appropriate for your stage of pregnancy. HOWEVER, as I got bigger (and I got REALLY big) I found it too tough for me and had to give it up as I got into my 3rd trimester. But by then I was also dealing with gestational diabetes so strenuous exercises can do havoc to my blood sugar level making me dizzy and lightheaded. Otherwise I loved it!!
Great yoga workout! December 6, 2009 J. Labonte (Massachusetts) The first time I used this DVD, I was in that exhausted, sick, all-around awful phase of pregnancy: mid-first trimester. I thought I was going to die about 30 minutes in. I stopped and put the DVD on the shelf. I have been doing yoga for about 10 years, but it was too much for me in that condition.
However, I just gave it a second chance, at 12 weeks, and what a difference! I felt challenged and strong the entire time and made it through the entire practice without wanting to throw up or pass out. What is so awesome about this practice is that it targets all those areas that expand during pregnancy that you don't want to expand, like the thighs and butt. Also, it gives you a chance to build and maintain strength in the shoulders, arms and back, which many pregnancy workouts do not.
I love that the practice is tough - just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I want my workouts to be easy. I highly recommend this to women who have taken enough yoga to be familiar with the poses and their variations.
Re energised November 22, 2009 Ms. S. J. Mariani (Melbourne) I have practised yoga on a daily basis for sometime, however, was in need for a fresh and challenging compilation of poses. I feel like i am taking myself safely to my edge.
Great workout / Amazing preparation for childbirth! October 12, 2009 D. Gardner (Mountain View, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga DVD was one of my best pregnancy purchases. :)
I wanted to be "in training" during my pregnancy, as I was hoping for a natural childbirth. Unable to find prenatal classes that worked with my schedule, I listened to the numerous positive reviews for Jennifer Wolfe's videos, and I bought them during my first trimester.
My fitness background: I regularly use other ashtanga and vinyasa yoga videos, and I consider myself to be at an intermediate/advanced fitness level... probably intermediate when it comes to yoga.
I LOVED doing this video. I only had time to do this one once a weekend... the other days, I did either the 30 min or 45 min workout from the same instructor's "Short Forms" DVD. I used these videos for my entire pregnancy (all 42 weeks of it!) Jennifer's teaching style and cues are great- I found her really pleasant, calming, and easy to follow. I felt as though she knew exactly what my muscles were craving- my husband laughed at all of my "mmmmmms" and "ahhhhhs" while I was working out.
This workouts kept me sane and energetic. The modifications for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester were perfect for how I felt during each phase of my pregnancy. I definitely felt a big boost in my mental and physical state on days I did this video.
Obviously feeling good during pregnancy is important, but the strength this yoga training gave me during my childbirth experience was priceless. I did have my natural childbirth, complete with 6.5 hours of pushing. My (highly sought-after) OB now tells all of his patients to use Jennifer Wolfe's yoga DVDs. :)
